If you don’t have a garden, I encourage you to start one. I have a small backyard garden, and everything is planted in planters. I trellis my squash and melons so that they don’t kill my grass. I have a LOT in a small space. It’s possible. There is absolutely nothing better than walking out into your garden and picking food then bringing it in, cleaning it and cooking it!
That being said, you can still make this dish with store bought veggies, and it’s still the perfect sweet and spicy side for any cut of meat or chicken.

What you’ll need:
- 1 Cup okra
- 1 cup peppers (I used chopped bell and sweety drop peppers left whole)
- 4 slices bacon
- 4 garlic cloves chopped finely
- 1 onion
- 2 cups of cherry tomatoes
- Salt
- Pepper
- Cajun seasoning
- Olive oil
How to make it:
Warm a skillet over medium high heat. Chop bacon and cook until it starts to curl. Chop your okra, onion, peppers and garlic. Add about a tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Add veggies to pan.
Cook these veggies over medium high until the peppers and onions and okra are soft and the garlic is fragrant. While these are cooking, season with salt, pepper, and a tablespoon of Cajun seasoning.
Add tomatoes to the pan. Cook until tomatoes start to blister. Serve warm.
